AMELIA ISLAND, FLORIDA: Raymond Niles Johnson, 87, (June 6, 1927-April 5,2015) husband of Frances (Burns) Johnson for 65 years, passed away on Easter. Raymond was born in Westfield, the son of the late Helge and Helen (Larson) Johnson. He was a longtime resident of Southwick and retired to Florida ten years ago.
Raymond served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. Following his honorable discharge, Raymond enrolled at AIC, Springfield, where he achieved an accounting degree and met Frances. He retired as the owner of American Lumber and Hardware, Southwick.
He is survived by his brother, Allen Johnson and his wife Elisabeth, of Southwick. He is also survived by his three sons; Norman Johnson of Bangor, ME, Martin Johnson and wife Laura of Niskayuna, NY, Brian Johnson and wife Catherine of Midlothian, VA; and his seven grandchildren:Kyle Johnson, Courtney Johnson, Keith Johnson, Alex Johnson, Jake Johnson, Martha Johnson and Joseph Johnson.
Raymond was a passionate UConn Women’s Basketball fan, as well as an avid Boston (New England) Patriots and Boston Celtics fan. He loved walking on the beach, visits from his family, and dancing with the love of his life, Frances.
Funeral services and military honor will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday June 13, 2015, in New Cemetery, College Highway, Southwick. There are no calling hours. Southwick Forastiere Family Funeral Home is assisting the family. MEMORIAL DONATIONS(in lieu of flowers):
