Hello Westfield and a Very Merry Christmas to you! I hope you are all enjoying the Holiday season with friends and family and lots of Christmas cookies.
Although the legislature has been in recess, I have still been hard at work this month. I spent the first two weeks of December down in Charlottesville, Virginia attending a Captain’s Advance Course for the United States Army. I have been working towards the requirements since this summer, so it’s a huge relief to finally complete the course. The Captain’s Advance Course is the academic requirement that I needed to finish in order to be promoted from Captain to Major in the Army. After many years, I am honored and humbled to be considered for such a distinguished title. Words can’t say how much my service has meant to me so far, and I am excited to be progressing further.
I am lucky that the course fell just a few weeks after we went into recess and that I did not have to miss any important votes in the State House. In fact, it was confirmed earlier this week that I am one of two Hampden County State Reps with a perfect, 100% attendance record for the roll call votes taken this year. For those of you who may not know, “roll call” votes are formal “yay” or “nay” votes that we take in Chamber, and they are often the most important votes we take. Overall, there were only 65 legislators out of 160 who had a 100% attendance record, and I’m proud to count myself among them!
Other than that, this week has been filled with Christmas parties and constituent meetings. I had an especially great time at the East Mountain Road Transition Program party on Wednesday, where I got to celebrate the season and the success of students with developmental disabilities. I love spending time with these students and always attend their events whenever I can. Finally, I ended my week with Christmas Bingo at the Senior Center, where I was treated to a delicious breakfast and the wonderful company of our local seniors. As one of Westfield’s premier Bingo callers, I get to participate regularly in the weekly game- it’s always a blast!
That’s it for this week, folks. My office will be closed through Wednesday, December 27th, but will be open again on Thursday. Please do not hesitate to call or email if there is ever anything we can do to help. We can be reached at 413-572-3920 or [email protected]. Again, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
