Deerfield, MA – Richard E. Treat, Sr., 81, of Deerfield, formerly of Westfield, MA, passed away peacefully at his residence in Deerfield on May 18, 2017.
He was born in Westfield, MA on October 14, 1935, the son of Irwin S. and Mae A. (Strniste) Treat. He had worked as a Maintenance Engineer for O’Connor Lumber Company in Westfield for many years. He was a self-taught musician and played guitar and keyboards in a country western band. Richard was an avid outdoorsman, had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Pope) Treat, a son, Richard E. Treat, Jr., and a niece, Diane Griffin. Family members include a daughter; a step-son, Robert Mitchell; a nephew, Gary Little; and two nieces, Janet Kwiatkowski, with whom he resided, and Susan Douglas.
A graveside memorial service will take place later this spring at the convenience of the family at Pine Hill Cemetery in Westfield, MA. Donations may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 North Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
