Morganton, NC – Richard Loomis Fowler Jr. 80, of Morganton, North Carolina, formerly from Westfield, Massachusetts, died peacefully at his home, Sunday, March 11, 2018 after a long period of declining health.
Richard was born August 30, 1937 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the son of Ina Peterson and Richard Loomis Fowler Sr. He graduated from Westfield High School and Northfield Mount Hermon School before attending and graduating from Hobart College in Geneva, New York, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Richard met his beloved wife, Carole, in 1957 and they were married in Geneva, New York in 1960. They were blessed with three sons, Richard L. III, Scott N., Jeffrey P.
He was employed by the Traveler’s Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut before returning to his family business, Fowler Farms, and becoming partners with his father until 1994 when he retired. His favorite sports were golf, football (the Patriots), baseball (the Red Sox), and Basketball (the Celtics). He particularly loved the game of golf, which he originally played on the Westfield High School team and the Hobart Golf team, and then throughout the rest of his life. Another passion of his life was traveling to Bermuda and the islands in the Caribbean whereupon he decided to buy land and build a house on the island of Nevis in the West Indies. He and Carole lived there for 13 years, full time for 5 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Scott Neil, and a brother, John Parker.
Surviving him are his wife, Carole McLaughlin Fowler, two sons, Richard III, and his wife Nancy Pack and their two daughters, Nicole and Olivia. Jeffrey and his wife, Natasha Yakovlev and their two daughters, Lillia and Mira.
A memorial service will be held in Morganton, North Carolina and at a later date in Westfield, Massachusetts.
