SOUTHWICK: Robert F. McElligott, 73, (aka Bob, Bobby, Gil, Dad, Mac, Grampy) a resident of this town for over 20 years, and formerly of Westfield, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 with his loving wife Barbara by his side. Born and educated in Holyoke, MA, Robert was the son of the late Thomas & Rose (May) McElligott, and was a 1959 graduate of Sacred Heart High School.
Robert was kind, loving and generous to a fault with a quick wit and the best sense of humor. He had worked for UPS for over 22 years, and later owned Surprise! Hallmark Card & Gift in Agawam until his retirement. He was a former member of the Mass. Air National Guard during which he was deployed to France. He enjoyed coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, traveling, especially to Florida during the winter to watch Red Sox spring training, and watching his grandchildren grow up.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara (Skorupski) McElligott, his children Brian McElligott and his wife Cathleen of Upton, MA, and Deborah McElligott Cayne and her husband Randy of Simsbury, CT, his grandchildren, Allison, Sarah, & Samuel McElligott, and Martin, Mason, & Kathryn Cayne and many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by his siblings, Thomas, John, Kathleen & Rosemary. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Noble VNA & Hospice Services who provided care and comfort to Robert during his illness.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Southwick-Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick, MA. Family & friends may gather at the funeral home from 9:00—11:00 AM followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Sheep Pasture Rd., Southwick, MA.
