WESTFIELD – Robert Gale Slack age 92, (1927-2020) passed away on June 4, 2020 surrounded by his loving daughters. He was born on Tuesday, August 30, 1927 in Sheffield, PA. the youngest of 16 children. He was the last child born to Isaac and Hattie Slack. Robert served in the United States Army for two years as Military Police during World War II. He was stationed in Germany where he served as a court officer during the Nuremberg Trials and a guard to Hermann Goring the second in command to Hitler. After serving his country, Robert worked as a volunteer Fireman for Sheffield, PA, he owned his own gas station, and was also a police officer; after which he started his career with Agway Distribution Center where he stayed working until his retirement in 1992. On February 20, 1965 Robert married Sharon Phyllis Moats. They relocated to Westfield, Massachusetts for work related reasons and they resided here until both of their deaths. After retiring from Agway, Robert took on part time work with the City of Westfield as the Parking Officer until 2007. Robert was a member and past master of the Huntington Federal Lodge until it folded. He was member of Mount Moriah Lodge of Westfield, a member and past commander American Legion Post 454, and VFW 1847. He was the voice of the Blandford Fair as the announcer for all the fair events for many years.
Robert Slack took pride in his family. He had five children, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by: his daughter in law Melissa Slack of Cortland NY, daughters Misty St. Peter (Barry) of Westfield, Stacy Waite of Westfield, Bobbi Jo Slack-Reyes of Westfield, Sandra Andino (Reuben) of West Springfield, MA; his grandchildren, Robert, Meghan, Stephanie Lynn, Amanda, Ashlee, Robert, Justin, Stephanie Anne, Payton, Landon, and Fenix, along with his great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He predeceased by his loving wife Sharon Phyllis Slack, his son Jeffrey Alan Slack, his granddaughter Emily Nicole Slack, his 8 brothers; Chester , William Bertrum, Hiram Emery, Charles Elmer, Isaac W, Wilbur Eugene, Earl Carl, Merle Marten, Lyle James, his 6 sisters; Lelea, Hattie, Verna, Carol Elizabeth, Romaine Alice, and Eva Mae.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital in Springfield, MA
