WESTFIELD: Robert O. Pettengill, Sr., 85, (1936 – 2021) died Saturday morning, December 25, 2021, at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home. Bob was born in Westfield, to the late Sewell and Catherine (Little) Pettengill. Bob was predeceased by his seven siblings: Sewall Pettengill, George Pettengill, Paul Pettengill, Gilbert Pettengill, Marion Mihalek, Mary Rodowicz, and Joyce Pettengill. He was a 1955 graduate of Westfield Trade School. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960. He served in South Korea after being stationed at The United States Military Academy at West Point. A lifelong resident of Westfield, Bob retired as a skilled machinist after 27 years at Berkshire Industries.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of over 64 years, Pamela (Lemire) Pettengill, his children: Robert Pettengill, Jr. and his wife Darbie (Bein) Pettengill, Audrey Wilson and her husband Bryan Wilson, Katherine McKenna and her husband Steven McKenna, his beloved grandchildren: Peggy, Robert III, Rachel, Steven, Jr, and great-grandchildren, Matthieu, Jacoby, and Rowen.
Bob loved music and enjoyed playing the trumpet with his brother, Paul. He was an avid Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. He especially enjoyed board games with his family, chess, golf, and bocce on the beach in Maine. Bob will be missed by all who loved him. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home and Holyoke Medical Center for the heartfelt compassion and care given to Bob.
Committal Services for Bob will be held at Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Agawam, 1390 Main Street, on Friday, December 31 at 9:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob, may be made to the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. www.firtionadams.com
