Westfield – Roland W. King Sr., 92, died Friday, April 27, 2018 in a local nursing home. He was born in Westfield on June 27, 1925 to the late Harrison and Frances (Bush) King. He attended Westfield Trade School and joined the Navy in 1942. He served in WW-II on the USS Lexington CV-16. He was a truck Mechanic for Peck Lumber Co. in Westfield for 36 years and retired in 1986. Roland was a member of the VFW Post 1847 American Legion Post 454 and was founder and President of the U.S. Lexington CV-16 Association. After retirement he traveled to 49 states for yearly reunions for the CV- 16 Association. Dad always told us to “Count Your Blessings”. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 66 years Evelyn J. (Kane) King in 2013. Roland leaves his children Roland W. “Skip” King Jr. and his wife Sharon, Christopher F. King and his wife Patricia and Patricia Breton and her husband Robert all of Westfield. He also leaves 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and his sister Marjorie Besnia of Granville. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 1st at 10:30 am from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. Burial will follow with military honors in Pine Hill Cemetery.
