Sandra “Sandy” J. Bruce, 75, (1940-2016) of Westfield, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 10, 2016. Sandy was born the youngest daughter to Laurance & Mary Bruce on November 2, 1940. Famously known as Miss Bruce, she was a beloved teacher for the Westfield Public Schools before retiring to spend time with family and friends, tend her gardens, take care of her cats, read her favorite books, knit, and enjoy her vacations in Florida and Cape Cod. Sandy is survived by her sister, Shirley Furkey, brother, John Bruce and his wife, Martha, all of Westfield. She leaves nieces Laurie Furkey and Donna Gavioli and her husband Jeff; her nephews Laurance Bruce, John Bruce, his wife Beth Sager, Douglas Furkey, his wife Tara. She loved spending time with her great nieces and nephews, Jeffrey and his fiancé, Ashley, Elizabeth, Shelby, Sabrina, Benjamin, Catherine, Cameron, and Emerson. All services for Sandy will be private; there will be no calling hours. Donations may be made in Sandy’s name to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Westfield Homeless Cat Project, 1124 East Mountain Rd. Westfield, MA 1085.
