Sandra Lee Alker

CHICOPEE – Sandra Lee Alker, 72, of Chicopee, MA saw her Savior face to face on May 9, 2020 while in Baystate Medical Center. Born Sandra Lee McFetridge in 1947, Millis, Massachusetts. Her parents who predeceased her were Arther S. McFetridge and Alice (Heustis). She married Robert John Alker, JR in 1966. Survived by Daughter, Lisa Horn, of Louisville, KY, grandchildren Adam Gemme Jr. (Leominster, MA), Devin Gemme (Holyoke, MA), Briar Horn and Elizabeth Poore (Louisville, KY), and great-grandson Gaige Gemme of (Worcester, MA). She worked at AT&T for 32 years as an operator, chief operator manager, and operator trainer. She received numerous awards for customer service. Transferred to Independence, MO in 1996 and retired from AT&T. She earned a business degree from Newbury College in 1984. Married 1985-1988 to Jay Crowell of Douglas, MA. She was baptized in 1991 at the Rose of Sharon Christian Fellowship.

Sandy grew up on a farm, losing her mother at 16. She was part of a dance troupe at an early age. She pursued a degree in social work, loved gardening and photography. She played in a cribbage group and was a member of the Sassy Stitchers (Westfield Senior Center). Her hands were always busy knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching or quilting—winning numerous awards in multiple categories at the Big E. She donated mittens, booties and hats to children at Shriner’s Hospital. Every new baby in her church family received a beautiful blanket stitched with love. Sandy was generous and often gave handcrafted gifts.

Sandy was an active member of Word of Grace Church, Westfield, MA. She loved hymns, gospel and country music. She made friends quickly, had a quick wit, a great sense of humor and a love of children. She was most known for her faith in Jesus Christ and for her support of many ministries of the church (cooking lunches, collecting cans for missions with the help of her grandson, Devin and a faithful member of the women’s prayer group). She was a friend and confidant to many. She will be missed by all. She is now dancing before her Savior Jesus.
