WESTFIELD – A Holyoke man has been found to be guilty for his ninth and tenth shoplifting charge and has been sentenced to jail.
Lawrence Disco, 54, of 72 Essex St., Holyoke, was arraigned in Westfield District Court after allegedly stealing 20 12-packs of soda from both the Stop and Shop and Big Y stores in the city, in separate incidents on Jan. 24 and 28.
Westfield Police Officer Andrew Cekovsky wrote in a court document supporting Disco’s arraignment for the theft from Stop & Shop that he had been found guilty for seven previous shoplifting charges. Cekovsky also noted, at the time, that Disco had a pending charge in Holyoke District Court for a similar shoplifting offense. Disco subsequently pleaded guilty to the Holyoke charge
Disco appeared before Judge Philip A. Contant in the Westfield court Wednesday and pleaded guilty in both cases to the charge he faced: shoplifting by asportation – a third or subsequent offense.
Contant sentenced Disco to a six month term in the house of correction for each of the charges and ordered that they be served concurrently, with credit for time served awaiting trial.
He was assessed $200 in fees on one of the charges and $50 on the second. He was also found to be guilty of a charge of trespass.
