Shirley M. (Hall) Cortis

SOUTHWICK: Shirley M. (Hall) Cortis, 94, passed away March 19, 2022, in a local nursing home. She was born in Springfield on December 15, 1927, to the late Perl and Edith (Mason) Hall. She grew up in Woronoco and lived in Westfield most of her life before moving to Southwick. She worked at Old Colony Envelope Co. and the Westfield Y.M.C.A. Nursery School. She was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church and taught Sunday school. Shirley and her husband owned and operated an antique business for many years traveling to many local flea markets. She enjoyed needlepoint, puzzles, reading and camping.

Shirley leaves her husband of 72 years Wallace R. Cortis, her children Gordon Cortis of Crossville, TN, Joyce Ripley and her husband Leon of Granville and Elaine Cortis and her husband Peter Stassen of Feeding Hills. She also leaves her grandchildren David Ripley and his wife Jessie, Jonathan Ripley, and Matthew Ripley and his wife Maggie; her great-grandchildren Lilie, Cate, Abbey and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 23rd, from 1-2 pm at the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. A service will follow at 2 pm and burial will be at a later date in Russell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Second Congregational Church, 487 Western Avenue, Westfield, MA 01085.
