WESTFIELD – Westfield firefighters were called out yesterday afternoon to extinguish a brush fire off Westwood Drive.
Deputy Chief Andrew Hart was in command of the incident . He reports that the fire was located in a wooded area behind the houses on Westwood Drive. The department’s brush truck was not able to reach the fires scene, so firefighters had to pull long lengths of hose from the pumper trucks to extinguish the fire.
Hart reports that the ignition source has not been determined and said that the fire scorched about an acre and a half.
“It was a hot day,” Hart said. “They (the firefighters) worked hard to put it out.”
