SOUTHWICK- The Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School Committee voted 5-2 Wednesday evening to push back all MIAA sports to at least the “fall 2” season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The vote comes as schools nationwide prepare for students to get back to learning, remotely or otherwise.

In August the MIAA met to discuss altering the high school sports calendar due to the pandemic. One of the changes they made was to take some fall sports like football and basketball and move their seasons to take place between Feb. 22 and April 25.

The School Committee vote postpones all of Southwick’s sports seasons to that period according to Athletic Director David Sanschagrin. An online petition was started to bring fall sports back to its regular season at change.org.

For regular academics, the School Committee is choosing a hybrid system, which will begin Sept. 15.
