SOUTHWICK – During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Select Board approved two new EMT’S (Emergency Medical Technicians) that will be on the volunteer call force for the Southwick Fire Department. The two individuals hired were Chris Moccio and Anthony Angotta.
Moccio, who is already an existing firefighter for the department, has just recently passed to become an EMT and will now reclassify as both an EMT and a firefighter on the call force.
A new member to the Southwick Fire Department, Angotta went through the process to strictly become an EMT on the call force.
According to Chief Russ Anderson, the two additions will fill the spots the department has lost over the past months.
“There’s always a transition but we’ve recently lost approximately three or four members to career jobs,” said Anderson.
Being on the volunteer career force, this means that Moccio and Angotta will most likely work one to two days a week on six or 12-hour shifts. Anderson said the job is on a per-diem basis. The difference with being on the career force is that it’s a full-time job that is 42 hours per week.
Anderson also added that both individuals will now start the process of being cleared by the department’s medical control.
