SOUTHWICK – The Town of Southwick is sponsoring a free seminar for general contractors, home builders, architects, homeowners, and more. Organized by town Building Inspector Art Lawler, the seminar will focus on wall bracing and will take place on Tuesday January 30 at 1 p.m. at the Southwick Fire Station on 15 Depot St.
Wall bracing is one of the most important structural aspects of building a home. Lou Daviau will be the guest speaker at the seminar to provide an in-depth tutorial on the subject. Daviau, manager of Simpson-Strong-Tie Co., an Enfield, Conn. based company focusing on structural product solutions, has done several building presentations in the past. Daviau had previously done a seminar for the Town of Southwick on building safer decks on June 27, 2017.
Lawler has been quoted saying that he highly admires Daviau’s knowledge and experience, and is confident that the event will be helpful to those it interests.
“The program can provide more accurate information to the homebuilders,” said Lawler. “If we get it all up front now, it makes sense.”
Seating is limited for the free seminar so pre-registration is required. To register, go on the town website and go to the Building Department home page to find the registration form.
