WESTFIELD- Representatives from St. Mary’s High School and St. Mary’s Parish will make an announcement Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium regarding the future of the school.

The announcement comes at the end of a one-year period in which the Catholic high school was allowed to remain open. The school received a $300,000 grant from the Diocese of Springfield in order to supplement the low enrollment rates. One requirement for the school to remain open was that at least 20 students enroll in the Freshman Fall of 2018 class. The minimum would increase to 30 in future years.

Next week’s announcement will be about whether or not the school will remain open now that the one-year period is almost up.

“We’ve done a lot of the legwork,” said Father Matthew Alcombright of St. Mary’s Parish, “now we’re ready to say if we will close or remain open.”

All members of the public will be allowed to attend the announcement on Tuesday.
