WESTFIELD – The St. Mary High School girls’ soccer may have lost a good portion of their team to graduation last season, but the Saints seem to be handling unfamiliar territory fairly well in the early going.
St. Mary’s shut out Putnam 4-0 yesterday to improve to 1-1.
Alison Stanlewicz had one goal and two assists to lead St. Mary’s, which received goals from four different players. Darby Bailey, Alex Mitchell, and Lauren Chapdelaine each scored for the Saints. Chapdelaine and Jeanette Peretti also earned assists.
Francesca Debregolo finished with five saves.
“This is all new for a lot of our players,” St. Mary’s coach Joe Almeida said. “It’s going to take a lot of time. But this is a good win for us. We’re going to move forward and hope to continue this pace.”

Pathfinder scored the game’s only goal in the 55th minute, an Alyna Verratti shot from the top of the penalty box that found the far corner of the net.
