State offers free admission to state parks on Veteran’s Day

BOSTON – The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA), in conjunction with the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), today announced that the Baker administration a will waive all entrance and parking fees at state parks and forests statewide Wednesday, in honor of Veterans Day. This decision corresponds with a similar program offered by the National Park Service at their properties nationwide on Veterans Day.
“Veterans and active duty military personnel have a proud legacy in the development of our Commonwealth and its park system,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “It is my hope that we all take time tomorrow to celebrate the freedoms that have been provided to us by those who have sacrificed so much to protect them.”
“Veterans Day is an opportunity for reflection on the tremendous sacrifice men and women in uniform have made on behalf of our nation,” said Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito. “DCR’s parks and forests, with their stewardship of many of our states sacred war memorials, will offer visitors an opportunity to stop and reflect on that sacrifice.”
From historic Fort Independence at Castle Island, to Massachusetts’ official Veterans War Memorial on the summit of Mt. Greylock, the state’s highest peak, DCR is the proud steward of many of the Commonwealth most historic military memorials.
“Our veterans and active duty military, along with their families, have made countless sacrifices on behalf of our country and Commonwealth,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Matthew Beaton. “Offering free entrance and parking to visitors at state parks is a small example of the appreciation and gratitude the Baker-Polito Administration has for those who served and continue to serve on behalf of this great country.”
The Department of Conservation and Recreation offers free parking and admission to its facilities year round to cars with Disabled Veterans license plates from all states.
“Thanks to DCR for providing this special admission in honor of Veterans Day,” said Department of Veterans’ Services Secretary Francisco Urena. “More particularly, thank you for providing free admission to our disabled veterans every day.”
