WESTFIELD – The Munger Hill neighborhood of Westfield was visited by a different kind of elf on Saturday, November 24th to help ring in the Christmas holiday.
The Super 7 f.c. soccer team treated residents with holiday caroling. The soccer team, which features players from 11 different communities in western Massachusetts decided to start in Westfield since four of their players are Westfield residents (Megan Alvarado, Allie Goodreau, Annika Jensen and Emma Pedro).
The team will be one of a handful of teams from the United States participating in the Norway Cup in the summer of 2019. The Norway Cup is the largest youth soccer tournament in the world. The team is working to raise $20,000 to defray the costs of the trip for the players.
“This is a trip of a lifetime for these players,” Super 7 f.c. head coach Todd Jensen said. “The chance to play overseas, experience different cultures and be a representative of our state and country is a tremendous opportunity.”
Jensen has served as the head coach of this group over the previous four summers as they have won four consecutive state championships in the MYSA summer District Select League, an accomplishment that no other western Massachusetts team has ever accomplished.
The team will be throughout the Pioneer Valley in the coming months raising funds, but the opportunity to spread holiday cheer and encourage team bonding was just too much to pass up. In addition to singing, the girls provided candy canes to children at each home they visited. Many residents stated how refreshing it was to have a group of athletes giving back by singing holiday songs and interacting with children.
If you are interested in supporting the team in their fund raising efforts you can send donations to Super 7 f.c., 27 Deer Run, Southwick, MA 01077 or visit their website Super7soccer.com.
The full roster is comprised of Selena Negron, Cristina Negron (Easthampton), Megan Alvarado, Allie Goodreau, Annika Jensen, Emma Pedro (Westfield), Samantha Breton, Brielle Los (Chicopee), Nell Dwyer (Amherst), Dana Chateuaneuf (Granby), Elyse Manzi (Holyoke), Michelina D’Agostino (Longmeadow), Olivia Crespo (Ludow), Hannah Duggan (Palmer), Sarah Shaw (Southwick) and Tash Branes (Springfield).
