WESTFIELD – Sylvie (Mercier) Wellspeak, 58, died Monday, February 24, 2014 in Noble Hospital. She was born in Quebec, Canada on January 10, 1956. She has lived in Westfield since 1969. She was a 1974 graduate of St. Mary’s High School.
Sylvie worked at Savage Arms in Westfield for 10 years and was the hardest worker that Savage had ever had worked there. Prior to working at Savage Arms, Sylvie worked for many years at The Pomeroy Agency in Westfield.
She leaves her husband, James Wellspeak; her mother, Florine Mercier of Westfield; her sisters, France Amell and husband Joe of Westfield, Louise Reopel and husband Bryan of Winston Salem, NC, Carole Pease and husband Michael of Westfield, Lynn Traver and husband Kenneth of Westfield, Jeanne Falls and husband Shawn of Huntington; her brother, Jean Mercier of Crestview, FL; 5 nephews, 4 nieces, 7 great nephews and 2 great niece’s. She also leaves her in-laws, James and Helen Wellspeak of Chester, sister and brother-in-laws, Donna Castagna of Westfield and Darlene Buikus and her husband John of Chester. She was predeceased by her father, Jean-Louis Mercier 1996.
The funeral for Sylvie will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
