WESTFIELD – Madeline Lukomski may be a freshman in high school, but this talented teen is going places, and giving back along the way.
Lukomski, 15, is a member of the Dane Kane Singers and will be the featured singer in a performance Oct. 6 that she helped organize to benefit the Cancer House of Hope.
Lukomski said Kane asked if she was interested in performing a charity concert and she eagerly said yes and chose the charity herself.
“A member of our singing group recently died after a long battle with cancer,” she said. “The Cancer House of Hope provides great support, comfort, love and hope to cancer patients and their families.”
The performance is at the Westfield Women’s Club, 28 Court St., Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling 413-562-0110.
“It’s nice that the proceeds from the show will stay locally,” said Kane, who will serve as musical director for the event.
Lukomski will be joined by soloists from the Dan Kane Singers, as well as a gospel choir.
“We will perform a variety of music, from Broadway tunes to standards and gospel,” said Lukomski.
The Westfield High School student has been singing she she could talk, and perhaps even younger.
“We have home videos of me singing – I was putting on shows for my parents when I was one,” said Lukomski.
Lukomski began singing with Kane at age seven and said music is her first love.
“I also dance and I enjoy acting and getting involved in student government, but singing is my life,” she said.
Kane said she has a long career ahead of her.
“Madeline is determined,” said Kane. “Madeline will not take failure for an answer. I have never seen a person more determined and more confident that this will happen for her.”
Lukomski aspires to perform on Broadway.
“I fell in love with Broadway when I first visited New York when I was seven,” she said. “I want to start auditioning and sending out demos now so I can start young.”
Kane said if anyone can make their dream come true, it’s Lukomski. And, she has the talent to back up her aspirations.
“She is what we call an old soul,” he said. “She is a young girl but her style of singining is of someone much older.”
Lukomski is the daughter of Lori Martin-Lukomski and Chris Lukomski, and the younger sister of Ryan Lukomski, of Westfield.
Lukomski said she gets her talent from her mother, who was a singer when she was young. She said her father has a “good ear” and gives good musical advice, and although her brother chooses not to sing, he has a good singing voice.
