WESTFIELD – Thelma Irene (Bean) Hess, of Southwick/Westfield, aged 99, (1925-2024) passed away at home on November 16th, 2024 surrounded by the love of her family. Thelma was truly family-focused and enjoyed close relationships with her 6 siblings, 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Thelma was the beloved matriarch who cherished family gatherings, whether they were large celebrations for holidays and milestones or cherished one-on-one visits.
She is survived by her children and their spouses who all live nearby and visited regularly: Mike and Debby Hess, Ellen and David Clark, Gerry and Holly Hess, and Danny and Kim Hess. Thelma was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Milford and siblings Chester, Walter, Mildred, Ruth, Edie and Gert.
Thelma graduated from Westfield High School (1944) where she was a proud member of “the Decades”, a group of 10 friends. She worked as a bookkeeper and waitress in many places including the Brass Rail and Shaker Country Club. Her hobbies included sewing and home decorating. She also enjoyed listening to music and dancing with her husband — often in her kitchen and living room. Thelma’s life was a testament to the true values of love, work and family.
Her family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2024 at the Southwick Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 624 College Highway, Southwick. A Service of Remembrance will follow at 6:00 p.m. Please bring a favorite memory of Thelma that may be shared with family and friends during this time. Thelma will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.
