Theresa M. Chevalier

WESTFIELD: Theresa M. (Plourde) Chevalier passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25 at a local nursing home. One of three children born chevalier photo2to Joseph and Rose (LaRose) Plourde, Theresa grew up in Chicopee Falls. She was a 1948 graduate of Cathedral High School. A resident of Westfield for the past 18 years, she was a communicant of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. She leaves behind her beloved husband and best friend Joseph A. Chevalier, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. She fondly recalled meeting Joe, a family friend, as a young girl. Joe, seven years her senior, took new notice of “his Terry” following his return from Europe at the end of WWII. The two later began their courtship with Terry sparking Joe’s interest in music and art, and Joe encouraging Terry’s love of animals and the outdoors. The couple married in Chicopee Falls in 1952.Theresa was an avid artist in her youth and in later years continued to paint during her travels with Joe. She also enjoyed music, reading, travel, trips to the casino, and spending time with her pups “Spoofer” and her beloved “Corky”. She treasured her girlfriends and it was with great fondness that she remembered their many adventures, including a trip to England. Theresa was employed for many years with Berkshire Farm for Boys, where together with her husband, she mentored countless students following her certification in the field of child care and adolescent supervision. She was later employed at Berkshire Mental Health until her retirement in 1995. In addition to her husband Joseph Chevalier, now a resident of the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, Theresa leaves behind to treasure her memory her dear brother David R. Plourde Sr. of East Longmeadow, and sisters-in-law Rhea Plourde of Chicopee and Theresa Georgens of Springfield. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Joseph A. Plourde. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews for whom she will always be lovingly remembered as “Auntie Terry”.  Along with many close friends, she will also be remembered by her many “sons” – beloved charges from the Berkshire School for Boys whom she cared for so deeply during her tenure and from whom she received many cherished cards and letters over the years. Her funeral will be held on Friday October 31st at 12:45 pm from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St., Westfield. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4pm until 7pm.
