Hello Westfield, especially, Ward 3, a few quick comments of local interest. First of all I want to greatly thank the wonderful faculty, admin., and others at Westfield Technical Academy. I was working on a project that kind of feel apart. Their sincere and caring, and offer of help really raised my spirits. Not only does Westfield have a fantastic group of skilled employees at WTA; opening the doors to careers in the 21st Cent., but also who are a fantastic in their caring and consideration.
This brings me to item 2….The great work that our schools are doing and to continue doing it they will need your help. THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY, and our youth are being prepared to live and prosper in it due to all the upgrades that they are proving in education and skills. But, the big BUT is funding. As I pointed out at the last City Council meeting the need to provide for their budget is vital to their and our futures. Where are the robotics and other new tech facilities? Like them or not, reality time! They are here and will be into the future. Want a job? You better be equipped with the knowledge to get one. Also, as I pointed out to the Council was that if any have and use technology devices, you know they become almost obsolete really quickly…so too the equipment and resources that make and repair them. A new economy is coming in fast, even with obstructionist and their archaic ideologies to keep us in the past. While the past can teach us, and there to preserve fond memories, I hate to say it, but it is dead. So unless you believe in the Zombie Apocalypse, keep up to evolve, or left behind with the past. All of us are smart enough to know that so many species became extinct because they could not evolve and adapt.
Next…Other things mentioned at that meeting: the railroad bridges on East Mt. Road. Just as was done with the overpass on Elm St., raise it up. Proof, it can be done. OK, East Mt. is residential but the road is wide enough and is not as curvy as Powdermill Rd. Straight through for a truck drive is ideal and safer. I understand that there is now serious talk about doing as I advocated then and in the past.
I really wish that the Council could allow a couple more minutes for Public Participation. Yes I know that we can speak longer at Public Hearings….But, as those that hire them, and pay for all that they do and don’t do….it would be nice. Lastly, AGAIN, if you want to cut taxes you have to increase revenue…an economic fact of life. Which need will you cut? Which population will be the losers in those cuts? COSTS do not go down. The Private Sector exists to make as much money as they can…so their prices will only go up. FACT! I thought Republicans were supposed to have business economic savvy, the ones I knew and know do?
Lastly, Stop and Shop…while I am not always pro-Union due to my personal experiences; as their lack of support when I was a victim of toxic worksite and had to retire pre-maturely; I am PRO-WORKING PEOPLE; we built America, we defended America, and our savvy created the world’s greatest economy and place to live since WWII. Thus, I had to do a drive by beep and wave to all those great folks at our local Stop and Shop. Your former ward 3 city councilor Brian Hoose[email protected].
