Letter to the Editor
Thank you Westfield News for all of your hard and long hours covering the forums and articles for all of the candidates.
My name is Cheryl Crowe and I am a candidate for Ward 6 City Council Seat. I am a USAF Gulf War Veteran and a Graduate from University of North Dakota with a Business and Public Administration Degree.
I would like to take this opportunity to provide a more in-depth outline of my goals as your Ward 6 Councilor:
1. Ward 6 is my top priority as your liaison and I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.
2. I will not under any circumstances vote/support to raise property taxes.
We have been squeezed enough and it’s time that we put a serious squeeze into controlling our City spending (managing within our means) and not further burdening the residents and small businesses of this city to pay more out of their pockets walking them out of their homes and businesses.
3. Advocate loudly to FIX OUR ROADS.
The roads have been seriously neglected and it’s time that we do something about this by utilizing State Chapter 90 funding and Excise Tax Revenue for that purpose only. We need to prioritize the needs and necessities of road improvements to provide safe passage for all residents and less wear on our vehicles. We are all saddled enough with taxes that we should see a return on our investment, but where is it?
4. Education is very important to our children
We need to make sure that our students have the necessary tools and resources to stay abreast of the ever changing world of technology as well as draw families in for the high standard of education within Westfield. This provides our students with a competitive edge for their future in furthering their education or entering the workforce. They are our future and we need to invest in their future!!
5. I am advocate for small businesses.
We need you as you provide employment, generate additional city revenue, vitality and growth, unique shopping experiences, and interesting products and services. I grew up and worked in a family owned business and understand the constant need to reinvent the wheel to stay alive in an ever changing world and economy as well as juggling the financials of both business owned and residential. As President of the Hampton Ponds Association, a Non-Profit Organization, it is a constant battle to keep our community building open and raising funds for yearly Scholarships giving back to the community. With the support of fantastic members of this organization has enabled us to thrive and survive through tough times and stay within our budgetary means.
6. As I stated in my profile article, I will hold Ward 6 bi-yearly meetings as a communication link and to hear your feedback on concerns and issues.
I realize that due to the size of Ward 6, meetings would be divided into different locations to accommodate everyone.
I truly love this city and the people. This campaign trail has been a wonderful experience meeting so many people and listening to your concerns and frustrations. I am solely committed in serving as your Ward 6 Councilor. The military has taught me to stand up when needed and I have no problem doing just that.
On November 3rd I respectfully ask for your vote. Thank you all for support and encouragement that has helped me throughout this campaign.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Crowe
