Dear Editor,
A very belated thank you to the city of Westfield for being the wonderful hosts that you were for the Babe Ruth World Series this past August 10-18. I fell in love with your small city. I learned you value youth, seniors, veterans, trees, and preservation of natural spaces. Your friendliness and offers to help were touching. A Westfield policeman suggested I visit Stanley Park and Grandmothers’ Garden. I spent an additional half day in Westfield so I could do this. I am so thankful I did. I shall be back in June when your gardens are in full bloom. I miss your friendly baseball fans. I chatted and sat with fans from age 8-80. They didn’t know anyone who was playing but said they simply enjoyed watching baseball. Your volunteers and ambassadors were so helpful and friendly. Westfield University deserves a loud shout out too! What a beautiful and friendly campus. I learned only recently this was Westfield’s first event of this kind. I never would have guessed as what I saw was executed with excellent organization and professionalism.
In summary, as we put away the bats and gloves for this season, here in Maine we are already looking forward to baseball in the spring. It would be so nice if we could someday revisit your city and baseball fields, and especially reconnect with all of YOU. We of the Tri-County Maine team miss you and all you represent. Thank you for being you.
Sincerely,
Beth Coombs
