Two confirmed dead in Bugbee Road fire in Southwick

SOUTHWICK – Fire personnel have confirmed that two people have died in result of not being able to make it out of the structure fire that occurred on 13 Bugbee Road at about 6:20 a.m. on Saturday morning.

A third person residing in the home was able to get out of the home alive and called 911 immediately. Early reports indicated that two individuals were unaccounted for in the home. According to Southwick Fire Chief Anderson, the identities of the deceased individuals will not be released at this time since the incident is under investigation.

At about 6:28 a.m., Southwick firefighters arrived on scene and discovered that the residence was completely engulfed in flames and the home was a total loss.

Southwick Fire received mutual aid from Westfield, Granville, Suffield, and Granby fire departments.

There was no immediate confirmation of the cause of the fire and it is currently being investigated by the Massachusetts Fire Marshal’s Office and the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office. The identities of the victim’s will be announced by the district attorney’s office once the medical examiner has finished the formal process and the next of kin are notified.
