SOUTHWICK – The Southwick Civic Fund is in need of participants for the upcoming Southwick Farm Parade scheduled to take place on October 14.
The parade consists of family pets, farm animals, and tractors that were made prior to 1975 along with any types of animals from dogs and cats to goats, cows, sheep, ox, and more.
According to the Southwick Civic Fund organizers, there is currently only one tractor that has signed up and so far no animals have been signed.
The farm parade all stemmed from an idea that Southwick resident Bobby Polverari approached Moolicious Farms owner and Southwick Civic Fund President Joe Deedy, with a few months ago. After traveling through Vermont and seeing a sign for a farm parade, Polverari didn’t see why Southwick couldn’t have an event like that of their own.
All of the proceeds for the event will go towards the Southwick Animal Shelter. In 2013, Southwick resident Bobby Polverari and his wife, Barabara, had a brand new 2,400 sq. ft. animal shelter built which contains office space, a play area for the pets, along with an adoption area and lobby.
Deedy hopes that more tractors and animals will sign up in order to help a great cause.
“We still really want to raise money for the animal control facility, that’s the bigger picture,” said Deedy. “Hopefully we can pull it off.”
In order to register for the Southwick Farm Parade, people can visit the Southwick Civic Fund website, www.southwickcivicfund.org, for more information and costs.
The October 14 parade is scheduled to begin at 2pm from Interstate Building Supply, then head south on Route 10/202 ending at the Southwick Town Hall. Following the parade, an awards ceremony will take place at Prifti Park adjacent to town hall. Judges will be looking at decorations of animals and tractors and will be handing out prizes for the winners.
The Southwick Civic Fund is saying that anyone can be involved in the parade but that those under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
