GRANVILLE – The Granville Police Department will be hosting a community forum on October 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Granville Town Hall.
Headlining the public forum, the police department will introduce their new tool, the See Something and Send Something App. Available for residents to download on their smart phone, the app is a platform for people to report crimes that are instantly directed to the police. The community will also be able to send pictures and videos in real time.
Lt. Rick Rindels noted that this app could make a positive impact on the police due to the department’s inability to be fully-staffed every single day of the week. A part-time department, the Granville Police Department consists of 16 officers.
“A lot of times, the police station is not manned,” said Rindels.
Besides discussing the See Something and Send Something app, Granville officers will allow the public to ask questions and address any concerns or comments they may have. One issue the police department expects to be talked about is speeding.
At the police town meeting in December of 2017, the Granville Police Department compiled statistics and found they had 35 criminal complaints in 2017, with at least 15 of those being arrests. From 2007 to 2014, Granville had eight criminal complaints or less. In 2016, the police department responded to approximately 1,200 calls. Chief Scott Flebotte reported that a majority of those calls were drug-related.
