Westfield

Update from Ward 4 Councilor Mary O’Connell

The news this month in Westfield is the Little League World Series that will be played in our Community from August 11 to 18.  It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our City and we will be welcoming many visitors. Volunteers are still needed to help with all facets of this undertaking including ticket sales, parking supervision, concession stands sales, and working on the ball fields. Those interested in assisting are asked to visit www.westfieldworldseries.com for more information and to sign up. Tickets for games are available at this web site or at Bullen’s Field.

While on break from our meeting schedule the Westfield City Council continues to work to represent your interests and works towards serving our constituency.  We return tor regular session on August 22 which is a Tuesday.  We rescheduled our next meeting due to the conflict with the final evening of the Little League World Series events.  This week some of the City Councilors attended the Meet and Greet for our new Superintendent of Schools, Stefan Czaporowski. The event was held in the Center of Westfield under the Gazebo.  Many folks attended and it was a great opportunity to wish the Superintended well as he begins the daunting task of leading our Westfield School System. There will another opportunity to meet Superintendent Czaporowski on Monday, September 19, 2016 at the Westfield City Hall between 4:30 and 6:00 PM.

There is an election coming up in our City on THURSDAY September 8.  It is so important that we exercise our right to vote and I hope that the residents of Westfield will take advantage of this opportunity to weigh in at the ballot box  On the Republican side there is no opposition in the State Senatorial race with Senator Donald Humason as the lone candidate on the ballot.  John Comerford is the only candidate on the Republican primary ballot for Sheriff. On the Democratic side there are two hot races, one for Sheriff with the candidates being Nick Cocchi, Michael Albano, Thomas Ashe and John Griffin.  The second contested race for Governor’s Council with Jeff Morneau and Mary Hurley vying for this spot.  The importance of the Sheriff/’s race is evident to all of us.  The importance of each Position on the Governor’s Council is also of utmost concern.  The folks elected to this office help select Judges that fill judicial spots in our Commonwealth.  Honest, common sense, and ethical judges are the basis of our entire legal system and it is imperative that we select folks of integrity to choose these folks.  I hope that voters take the time to review each of the candidate’s qualifications and stances prior to voting.

Best wishes for an enjoyable balance of your August.
