SOUTHWICK – During Wednesday night’s Park and Recreation Committee meeting, an update was given on the Whalley Park lighting project.
Jason Larochelle, who owns J & L Construction, the contractor for the project, informed the committee of the progress that has been made in the past two weeks since they last met.
According to Larochelle, all of the lights, footing, and conduits are up, and most of the wiring is finished. About 80% of the clean-up for the project is done.
The plan for J & L Construction is to have that portion of the project complete in the next couple of days. The next step would be for the seeding to get underway, which should begin early next week.
In the meeting two weeks ago that was reported on by the Westfield News, the committee took a vote and decided in favor of rejecting Larochelle’s request to extend the project past the original deadline for the project on March 30.
Rob Levesque of R. Levesque Associates, who is the landscape architect for the project, informed Larochelle that the company would be fined $500 a day for every day that the project extends past the deadline.
At Wednesday night’s meeting, Larochelle told the committee that he may consider attempting to put in a request for another vote regarding the amount of damages that his company would have to pay.
