WESTFIELD – A UPS driver may have helped catch a thief.
A UPS driver delivering packages in Westfield on Tuesday alerted police that it appeared he was being followed.
The UPS driver was concerned the person was “up to no good,” so he notified police.
At 10:26 a.m. police responded to the call, but officers could not locate the blue Saturn the UPS driver had described.
Approximately a half hour later, police pulled over a 2003 Saturn near 38 Mill Street at 18 Hassler Street, according to police logs.
Westfield Police Capt. Michael McCabe said the UPS driver reported that the Saturn’s driver, Patrick J. Flynn, followed him for at least six to seven stops where he had left/delivered packages.
Flynn, 32, of Myrtle Avenue, was arrested on charges of operating a motor vehicle with license suspended and operating a motor vehicle with registration revoked.
Police suspect Flynn may have been taking the packages that the UPS driver was leaving on porches, but no criminal charges have been filed at the moment, McCabe said.
The case is under investigation.
