Westfield – Verna A. (Hawley) Collier, 96, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at her son’s home. She was born in Southwick on November 3, 1921 to the late Clarence and Abigail (Johnson) Hawley. She was the foster daughter of the late William and Martha Barnes. Verna worked as a nurse for over 25 years at Noble Hospital and retired in 1984. She was a member of Second Congregational Church in Westfield, a member of their Hope Support Group. Besides her parents and foster parents, Verna was predeceased by her beloved husband Albert W. Collier in 1973, her sisters, Lois (Hawley) King and Barbara (Hawley) Allen, her foster brothers, Leon and Harold Barnes, foster sister Marian (Barnes) Smith and a granddaughter Jennifer H. Collier. She is survived by her son David A. Collier and his wife Cheryle, who she lived with, her daughter Lea Ann (Collier) Stoltz and her husband Gary of Boise, ID, five cherished grandchildren, Jonathan Condel and his wife Brooke and Matthew Condel and his wife Jennifer, all of ID, Philip LaRose and his wife Tracy of Westfield, Amie M. (Collier) Thackeray and her husband Jason, Amber M. (Collier) Boisseau and her husband Steven, all of Westfield and her seven great grandchildren, Britton, Sabina, and Harper Condel of Boise, ID, Matthew Bernatchez, Nicholas and Jacob Boisseau, Madison Thackeray and Lily LaRose, all of Westfield. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday February 19, 2018 at 12 Noon in Second Congregational Church, 487 Western Ave. Westfield. Burial will held in the spring in New Cemetery, Southwick, MA.
