Tolland – Verna P. (Messenger) Bittles, 95, of Tolland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the Atrium in Agawam. Born in Springfield, MA on August 22, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Elsie (Jahn) Messenger. Verna proudly served with the USO where she toured with The 3 D’s, Daisy, Dixie and Dimples, all across the country, singing and playing guitar for the U.S. troops who were wounded and coming back from World War II. She also worked as a waitress for many restaurants. Verna was predeceased by her husband Frances E. ”Frank” Bittles. She leaves her sister Eunice Hill, and brother Ronald Messenger, both of Tolland; and many nieces and nephews. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, April 1st from 10-11 AM at the Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick, with a Funeral Service at 11 AM.
