West Springfield man receives one-year sentence for stealing wallet

WESTFIELD – A West Springfield man will remain in jail after admitting to stealing a wallet from Baystate Noble Hospital and going on a spending spree in July.
Alan W. Day, Jr., 54, pleaded guilty in Westfield District Court on Tuesday to charges of larceny of credit card and improper use of credit card over $250.
He had charges of two counts of improper use of credit card under $250 and larceny over $250 by single scheme dismissed.
Day received a one-year sentence to the House of Correction, but has been held since his July 24 arrest, so he will receive credit for time served.
On July 17, at approximately 11:45 a.m., Day entered an unattended office in the hospital and stole a wallet, according to court records.
Less than an hour later that same day, the defendant purchased a flat screen television costing $295. 38 from Walmart in Westfield with the victim’s debit card, according to the statement of facts.
Day then went to Table and Vine in West Springfield and purchased beer and cigarettes valued at $26.94. A few minutes later, he spent $136.98 at Dick’s Sporting Goods, according to court records. These purchases were made using the same debit card.
The amount of fraudulent charges along with $40 cash that was in the wallet totaled $499.30.
In July, police had issued a warrant for Day’s arrest since he has 44 defaults for his 83 entries on his BOP, according to court records.
