WESTFIELD – As part of the 14-year-old Western Massachusetts State Tournament, Westfield welcomed Pittsfield to Bullens Field on Friday night. Visiting Pittsfield ended up getting the best of Westfield with an 8-2 victory.
Westfield will now travel to NipMuc Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
Pittsfield was able to build up a strong lead throughout the contest. In the top of the sixth inning, Pittsfield had an 8-1 lead. Westfield was able to tack on one more run in the bottom of the sixth in an attempt to chip away at the deficit.
“Tough loss, definitely, they (Pittsfield) came out swinging,” said Westfield Manager Tony Paroline.
James Renaudette led Westfield offensively with two hits. Ethan Saunders and Cam Gourde had one hit apiece.
This 14-Year-Old Westfield team was a team that was put together just a couple weeks ago and they are working on building a chemistry together.
Despite the loss, the game was an overall positive for the team moving forward.
“All in all, pretty positive experience coming out of it,” said Paroline. “We’re looking forward to playing out East tomorrow and come back with a win.”
