WESTFIELD – The Westfield Fire Commission made a personnel move during their meeting on Monday night. The commission decided to promote Captain Seth Ellis to a Deputy Chief’s position.
Prior to the selection, the commission interviewed Ellis and fellow Captain Ben Warren for the position.
Ellis will now be one of five Deputy Chiefs in the Westfield Fire Department. Although it’s not known what his exact role will be as a Deputy Chief, Ellis is excited to reach this point in his career.
“It’s something I’ve kind of been working on for a while,” said Ellis.
A part of the Westfield Fire Department since 2001, Ellis has worked his way up from being a firefighter and has been a Captain for 7 years now.
During his interview with the commission, Ellis touched on his drive to be heavily involved in the education aspect of being a firefighter. Ellis noted that he has taken education classes on fire prevention, ticketing, and fire academy, just to name a few.
“There is so much we need to know in this job,” said Ellis in the interview. “You take on a lot of responsibility.”
One of the Deputy Chief positions opened up after Deputy Chief Mark Devine informed the fire department that he was retiring, effectiv April 4. Ellis will officially be taking on his new position on April 4.
