WESTFIELD – The Westfield Public Schools hosted a Meet and Greet with Superintendent Stefan Czaporowski from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Park Square Pavilion on Wednesday. Parents and members of the community were invited to come and say hello to the superintendent and other new staff members in the schools.
Mayor Brian P. Sullivan and co-host Dennis Atkins also aired their WSKB 89.5fm radio show live from the Pavilion during the event, with community outreach coordinator Amber Danahey and Westfield Babe Ruth president Dan Welch as guests.
Among the new district personnel in attendance was Salvatore Frieri, the new principal at Munger Hill Elementary School, who started this past month.
“It’s going really well. The staff and families are great, and I’ve already met with the PTO. I’m looking forward to a really great year,” Frieri said.
Also present was Chris Rogers, who, while not new to the district in his 20th year, is stepping
down as interim principal at Abner Gibbs and has taken on a new position as Administrator of Student Services. Rogers said in his new role he will be in charge of Title I, homeless education and Tier 2 interventions for students who need instructional supports.
Prior to serving at Abner Gibbs, Rogers served as principal, assistant principal, coach and teacher at North Middle School, and phys ed teacher and coach at South Middle School.
Also coming to the Meet and Greet was School Committee member Diane Mayhew and “Maggie,” her English springer spaniel. Mayhew said that Maggie has completed her Canine Good Citizenship, and will be taking Pediatric Therapy training in the fall.
“My intention hopefully is to have her for a reading buddy for the elementary schools,” Mayhew said.
A second Meet and Greet event has been added to accommodate all members of the Westfield community on Monday, September 19 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. in Room 201 at City Hall.
