WESTFIELD-Girls from Westfield were among hundreds who gathered at the Mass Mutual Center on Saturday night to participate in the “Go for Bold” program, sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts, which reflects the Girl Scout Cookie Program theme for 2019.

Activity stations reflected the theme and were designed to build business savvy skills to help girls run and manage their Girl Scout cookie businesses online and in person, according to Dana Carnegie, communications manager, Girl Scouts of Central & Western Massachusetts.

Community partners also hosting stations included The Women’s Fund of Western Mass, Dress for Success, Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity, MGM Springfield, Home Depot, Society of American Magicians and TD Bank.

More than 300 Girl Scouts were in attendance and after attending a cookie rally, enjoyed the Springfield Thunderbirds hockey game.

“During Girl Scout cookie season each G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader) sets out to sell delicious cookies while also building entrepreneurial and business skills that are imperative for leadership and future success,” said Carnegie.

Carnegie added that close to 7,000 Girl Scouts participate in the cookie program each year, generating nearly $4 million in sales during the average season.

“All of the revenue raised stays within western and central Massachusetts,” said Carnegie.

Girl Scout cookie order taking begins Dec. 12 and community booth sales will start in the Greater Westfield area Jan. 18 and continue through March 10. Cookie selections range from Thin Mints, Toffee-tastics, and Caramel deLites/Samoas, to Trefoils/Shortbread varieties. A new cookie, Caramel Chocolate Chip, is a gluten-free offering with a hint of sea salt that will be available in select areas.

“We’ve placed our initial orders for cookies and will be able to start taking orders Dec. 12,” said Patricia O’Connor, who oversees Brownie and Girl Scout Ambassador troops in the city.  “We will have cookies in hand for direct selling on Jan. 18.”
