The residents at The Arbors at Westfield, an assisted living community located in downtown Westfield, derive a sense of purpose & a connection to their community through volunteering. This October, Arbors’ resident crafters knitted and crocheted boxes of pink scarves for the Pink Hope Lounge/Survivors Tent at the Springfield Rays of Hope “Walk Toward the Cure” event. After learning about the Rays of Hope outreach project, the many crafty ladies of The Arbors, including six staff members, were inspired. “I asked if they could make twenty scarves”, said Mary Argenio, Activities Director, “but they surprised me by making thirty-five!” Breast Cancer survivors will be able to choose from any number of handmade, donated scarves available in the Pink Hope Lounge, during the October 28 Walk at Forest Park.
