Westfield South 11’s win

WESTFIELD – Location turned out to be a non-issue last night, as Westfield South’s 10-11 Year Old All-Stars put on a show for their home crowd at Cross Street Park, defeating the visiting All-Stars from Agawam 19-6 in a contest that was supposed to be played down Route 187.
South recorded seventeen hits, with ten players getting in on the action.
The scoring heated up in the second inning, when the South squad notched four runs. Agawam answered in the bottom half of the frame with four of their own.
South was able to distance themselves from the opposition in the third, scoring eleven runs with two outs.
With their backs to the wall, Agawam calmly notched three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to avoid the dreaded mercy rule, but Westfield was able to put the game out of reach in the fifth, putting four more runs on the board to effectively end the back and forth affair.
Westfield’s usual suspects were responsible for the evening’s scoring. Colin Scanlon led the charge with two doubles and five RBIs. Tanner Koziol added four hits and three RBIs and David Tirrell notched three RBIs of his own.
Scanlon, Koziol, Tirrell and Matt Pelletier also took care of business on the mound, serving as the pitching rotation which shut the door on Agawam’s All-Star season.
“We’re feeling good,” said South Coach Matt Raposo. “We’ve won five straight games, and we’re hoping to continue on Saturday at Paper Mill.”
