WESTFIELD – Westfield State University’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society, will hold its annual tag sale on Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The tag sale will take place at English Professor Marilyn Sandidge’s house on the corner of Lathrop and Western Avenue in Westfield. The goal of the tag sale is to raise $800 – $1,000 to help students attend the 2015 international convention, in Albuquerque, N.M.
Westfield State’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta is currently looking for donations of items to be sold at the tag sale, such as furniture, appliances, books, clothing, sporting goods, and more.
Donations will be accepted until Friday, May 2, and can be dropped off in the English Department office in Bates 112, or can be picked up. For pick up, contact Dr. Glen Brewster at [email protected]
Professor Elizabeth Starr, member of Westfield State’s English Department and faculty advisor for Sigma Tau Delta, said that last year’s tag sale helped students attend this year’s international convention, held in Savannah, Ga. At the international convention, students have the opportunity to present their original critical and creative work, as well as attend academic and professional workshops and presentations.
Sigma Tau Delta’s annual tag sale has become a staple event in the Westfield community.
“Westfield State’s neighbors generously support the sale and often ask what we are raising funds for. This is a great opportunity to share information about Westfield State’s students’ activities and the kinds of experiences these students are getting to have when they attend an international convention, and it gives us an opportunity to promote Sigma Tau Delta’s efforts to support literacy as well as English and writing studies,” Starr said.
