Pee Wee Bombers Varsity vs. South Hadley
The Pee Wee Bombers Varsity had many obstacles to overcome on Sunday in a game in South Hadley. The defense was on fire right out of the gate with huge tackles by Strange, Ward, Adam, Barber and Clauson that held South Hadley to a short offensive possession that finished on fourth down with three to go. Offense came out firing with a 28-yard touchdown rush by Strange followed by a two-point conversion. Bombers first on the board the players kept working hard with Kroll, and Strange tackles forcing South Hadley to punt the ball after 3 plays. Offense was driving down the field with fourth down and five then Towers went to the air to Kroll, just coming up shy of the first down. South Hadley took full advantage of field position scoring a touchdown and two-point conversion to tie the game in the second quarter.
The Bomber Defense refused to go down without a fight on fourth down and four South Hadley got a break up the middle until Clauson attacked the ball carrier forcing a fumble and recovered by Kroll. The offense drove down the field behind West, Barber, Masso, Garcia, Doulette, and McDaniel but were unable to get into the end zone. As the final minutes ticked away South Hadley started an offensive drive aimed at winning the game, with great hands Kroll intercepted the air assault and ran the ball 23 yards before getting knocked out of bounds by South Hadley. The game ended in a tie of 8 – 8 despite all the hard work by the Bombers Team.
Pee Wee Varsity Bombers vs. Spartans
The Pee Wee Varsity Bombers started the game kicking off to the Spartans, with defense on the field and front line of Delgado, Masso, Barber, and Adam Spartans were quickly on third down and 13 forcing a pass which led to a great interception by Kroll on the Spartan 32-yard line. Bombers offense pushed down the field starting with a 6-yard rush by Towers, followed by a 20-yard rush from Strange, finished up with a two yard rush by Smith and a four yard rush for a touchdown by Melchionne. A two-point conversion was scored by Strange with essential blocking from Doulette and Tirrell. East Longmeadow’s second possession was derailed by a fumble to be recovered by Delgado on the Bomber 48-yard line.
The offense did not let up driving the ball on the ground with strong blocks by Barber and Masso that led to a 27 yard touchdown by Smith that was called back. Determined not to let the errors out of their control consume them, the offensive line continued to grind the East Longmeadow defense to the red zone. Allowing for a 19-yard touchdown by Strange and followed by a two-point conversion pass from Towers to Kroll. The third possession for the Spartans was forced into a punt by Delgado and Ramos teaming up for a huge third down tackle in the back field. Westfield back on the ball advanced the ball with a 9-yard rush by Towers and later came up short on a fourth and 2 yards to go despite a valiant effort by Strange. Spartans were quick to answer with a two play touchdown and 2-point conversion before the end of the half.
The offense struggled a bit in the first moments of the second half with Towers leading the attack hooking up with Melchionne for a 9-yard pass on fourth down and eight yards for a first down. Shortly followed by a 5-yard rush from Towers to get the Bombers back into the end zone with the help of Smith scoring a two point conversion it brought the Bombers to 24- 8 point lead. The Spartans would not retreat driving back down the field for another touchdown and two point conversion. With more fight left in them Towers went to the air again for a 13-yard pass completion to Kroll on a third and 12 play for a first down. Quick to help out his fellow teammates Strange rushed for 11 yards on the following play and not to be out done Melchionne contributed to the drive with a 17-yard first down. This brought the ball all the way to the 4-yard line just short of a touchdown. with a change of possession the Spartans went on a no huddle air attack with key passes broken up by Kroll and Shaboski the time had run out. Key tackles in the game made by Barber, Masso, Tirrell, Delgado, Kroll, Ramos, and McDaniel held the Spartans at bay to allow for the Bombers offense with a combined 34 rushes for 185 yards and Towers completing 4 out of 9 pass attempts for 23 yards. This victory moved the Pee Wee Bombers from fifth to tied for third in the Red Division.
JV Pee Wee with another hard fought victory 12-6 touchdowns by Schabowski and a 40 yard touchdown rush by Matt Collins. Defense was key with 3 fumble recoveries by Ward and Colby Clauson, great goal line Defense on the two point conversion by Durkee to hold South Hadley to 6 points.
Westfield JR Bombers vs. East Longmeadow Spartans
The Westfield Junior Bomber Football team was coming off its first win of the season. Westfield took its teams opening offensive drive 82 yards, capping it with a 9-yard run by Baley Collier for a touchdown. Nicholas Barber followed it up by running in the 2-point conversion. The East Longmeadow next position was halted by a sack by Joe Raco on fourth down, giving the ball back to the Westfield offense. The Bombers marched back down the field for 61 yards and scored on a powerful 1-yard run by Trot Gosselin. East Longmeadow started to move the ball, but a timely sack by Michael Ruta forced the Spartans to punt. Westfield turned to its passing game in an attempt to score with less than a minute in the half, but after a successful 33-yard pass to Michael Nihill and another 18 yards to CJ Skribiski they fell just short at the 6-yard line. After a 20-yard kick return by Baley Collier to start the second half, Westfield looked for another score. The Bomber offense moved the ball for 54 yards completing the possession by Trot Gosselin pushing the pile for his second touchdown of the game. Nicholas Barber then moved the line and punched in the 2-point conversion. East Longmeadow was able to score in the third quarter. On Westfield’s next and last offensive possession of the game, they moved the ball 29 yards and scored on Nicholas Barber’s 5-yard touchdown run. Baley Collier, who had opened the games scoring, closed it by completing the 2-point conversion. The final score was Westfield 30 to East Longmeadow 6.
Westfield’s offense was successful on both the ground and in the air. The offense was led by Trot Gosselin (FB) ran for a total of 45 yards, which included a pair of touchdowns from 1 yard out and the second from 4 yards out. Trot Gosselin was also the key blocker for many of his teammates during the game. Nicholas Barber (QB) ran for 98 yards, including scoring a touchdown on a 5-yard run and scored two of the games 2-point conversions. Nicholas Barber also completed 3 passes for a total of 52 yards. Bailey Collier (RB) ran for 60 yards, scoring a touchdown on a 9-yard run, scored on a 2 point conversion and had 1 reception. Mike Nihill (RB) ran for 61 yards and had 1 reception for 33 yards. CJ Skribiski (TE) had 1 reception for 18 yards.
Westfield’s defense continued to make great tackles throughout the game. The games defense was led by Kristopher Meneses (LB) with 4 tackles, including 1 sack for a loss of 18 yards. Joey Raco (DT) with 4 tackles, including 1 sack for a loss of yards. Manny Sardinha (CB) and Blake Tyler (LB) each with 4 tackles. Michael Ruta (LB) with 3 tackles, including 1 sack for a loss of yards. CJ Skribiski (SpT), Daniel Minelli (LB), Walter Figueroa (LB), Andrew Pellegrini (DT), Brendon Arnold (NT) and Nick Clauson (CB) each had 2 tackles. All of the defensive players moved aggressively throughout the game to the ball.
Westfield improves to 2-1-1 for the season and will play Saturday night at the South Hadley High School at 5:30 against South Hadley who are 1-3.
Westfield JR Bombers vs. South Hadley
The visiting Westfield Junior Bombers kicked the ball off to South Hadley. On South Hadley’s opening drive they were successful in moving the ball downfield for a touchdown. The defensive lineman made up of Andrew Pellegrini and Brandon Arnold helped reset the defense, stopping South Hadley on their 2-point conversion. On the next defensive possession, a strip of the football by the Bombers led to a fumble recovery by Walter Figueroa. On the opening possession of the second half the Westfield offense began to move the ball deep inside the South Hadley end of the field. Falling just short of the goal line, South Hadley regained possession. After great tackles of the defenses Michael Ruta, Blake Tyler, Joe Raco, and Kris Meneses, South Hadley was forced to punt the ball from their 5-yard line. On the punt return, Ian Wilhoite picked up the ball on the 22-yard line and with key blocking from the defense returned it for Westfield’s first score of the game. Trot Gosselin ran the ball in for the successful 2-point conversion. After the Westfield Kickoff, the defensive stepped up again holding the opposing team to a 4 and out series with back to back tackles by Nickolas Pellegrini and then one for a loss of yards by Joey Raco. The offense moved the ball down field and Trot Gossellin punched the ball in for the team’s second touchdown of the game. The final score was Westfield 14 to South Hadley 6 for the Bombers third win in a row.
Westfield’s offense was led by Trot Gosselin (FB) ran for a total of 31 yards, including a touchdown from 2 yards and a 2-point conversion. Nicholas Barber (QB) ran for 106 yards. Bailey Collier (RB) ran for 64 yards. Mike Nihill (RB) ran for 28 yards.
Westfield’s defense continued to make great tackles throughout the game. The games defense was led by Blake Tyler (LB) with 9 tackles. Walter Figueroa (LB) with 6 tackles and a fumble recovery. Ian Wilhoite (LB) had 5 tackles, caught an interception and returned a punt for a touchdown. Michael Ruta (LB) and Brendon Arnold (DT) each made with 3 tackles. Aiden Boyle (LB), Kristopher Meneses (LB), Jaret Gillespie (LB), Joey Raco (NT) and Nickolas Pellegrini (DT) each had 2 tackles. The great performances by Manny Sardinha (CB) and Nick Clauson (CB) controlled the outside of the defense.
Westfield improves to 3-1-1 for the season and will play Sunday at the Westfield Vocational High School at 1:00 against Springfield CYO who are 2-2-1.
Westfield SR Bombers vs. East Longmeadow
The Westfield Sr. Bombers played the East Longmeadow Spartans September 25 with both teams coming in with a 2-1 record. The Spartans struck firs, returning the opening kickoff 60 yards to take a 6-0 lead. Westfield’s Ari Schwartz came close to matching the opening kickoff return. Schwartz returned the second kick off 57 yards. Westfield would score on a Scott Walsh pass to Jack Clark.
Westfield would take advantage of a punt return that Austin St. Pierre stripped the ball from the returner and recovered it. Walsh would score on a 25-yard option play. Westfield’s defense lead by Dan Holland, Mark Blahut , St. Pierre and Jack Clark kept the Spartans from gaining any major yardage in the 1st half. Mason Balch would score on a power run through the line of scrimmage to end the first half.
The second half was more of Westfield’s offense moving the ball by way of the option and keeping East Longmeadow in a confused state not knowing who had the ball. Walsh would score again on another 30-yard option play. Schwartz would catch the last score from Walsh making the final score 32-20. Westfield improved to 3-1.
Westfield SR Bombers vs South Hadley
The Bombers entered Sunday’s game at South Hadley High School with a 3-1 record. Westfield’s defense that has dominated most teams they’ve played to this point continued their streak. The Bombers did not allow the Tigers to convert the first down in the entire first half. Westfield’s Austin St. Pierre, Mark Blahut and Camden Garfield all had a blocked punt giving Westfield great field position at different points of the game.
Scott Walsh connected with WR Braxton Barnachez in the 1st quarter on a 15 yard TD pass. Westfield would again score when Walsh connected with WR Jack Clark who caught a fourth and 17 yard play where Clark slanted across the middle of the field catching the pass and muscling through 5 defenders to get into the end zone for the TD. Clark would again score on a 30-yard pass from Walsh in the second half. Nate Boulay scored on a 4-yard dive play. The Bombers’ defense was lead by St. Pierre, Blahut, Clark, Anthony Clark, Chris Ward who all had multiple tackles . LB Zach Adam had 3 tackles and also intercepted a pass.
Westfield put up its third shutout of the season and improves to 4-1. Westfield will host Springfield CYO 3-2 this Sunday at 2:30pm at Bullens Field in Westfield.
