Not having its strongest showing of the season so far, Westfield Mite 2 held their ground only to fall by 1 to Holy Name. The Jr. Bombers seemed to struggle with clearing their zone and allowed multiple shots on goal. Hunter Stockseth was busy in net and was able to grab a nice glove save.  Westfield did try to get their momentum going, as we did see multiple players getting in close for scoring opportunities including:  Ryan Mayor (1 goal), Brody Fitzgerald (1 goal), Gwenn Hosmer (1 goal), as well as Jax Grady and Cody Collins both providing 2 goals.

Westfield Mite 2 came out ready to play a strong offensive game today vs. Nonotuck.   The Jr. Bombers seemed to be fired up and kept the Knights goalie working hard with scoring from Cameron Gainley, Jacob Jarrell, Cody Collins, Jax Grady and Hunter Stockseth.  The Jr. Bombers, working on their passing game, were also able to pick up assists from Cody Collins and Hunter Stockseth.  Westfield provided strong defense  on the sticks of Gwenn Hosmer, Brody Fitzgerald and Brendon Morse clearing the zone and bringing the puck up ice.  Ryan Major was a force to be reckoned with between the pipes holding off multiple shots on goal, leading to a near shutout for the Jr. Bombers.

Westfield Jr. Bombers 8, Amherst 8
December 1st, UMASS Mullins Center
Division: Mite 1
Westfield Mite 1 played a great game on Saturday, battling against Amherst.  Westfield scored early and first on a goal by Colin Foyle, and then fell behind as Amherst scored the next four goals.  Matt Kotfila broke the streak with a nice wrist shot into the net.  Amherst scored twice more and then Foyle scored again off a rebound from a strong attempt by Ethan Porter.  Amherst turned around and quickly scored again.  Porter broke through and scored and then Foyle put another one in for a hat trick.  Gage Sperlonga scored and then Ethan Porter got his second to even the score.  Amherst scored with three minutes left to pull ahead by one.  With 27 seconds left on the clock, Kotfila scored and the game ended in a hard fought tie with multiple saves in net by Bryce Russ.

Westfield Jr. Bombers 3, Holy Name Black  3
December 2nd, Olympia Ice Arena
Division: Squirt 3
They may be wearing the same uniforms they did when they first played Holy Name Black, but Westfield was definitely a different team this time around.  From the first drop of the puck until the final horn, both teams played a fast-paced, back and forth game.  The Bombers were anchored by solid defensive play by Clarissa Jarrell, Jake Marcoulier, Brad DiGiacomo and Nick Langlois.  Westfield struck first with a great feed from behind the net from Casey Scanlon to Keely Conner to beat the Holy Name goalie.  Holy Name was able to get on the board in the 2nd period by getting one past Sean Rowbotham, who up until then turned away numerous shots. DiGiacomo broke the tie with a nice assist from Haley Tullo, and then the two hooked up again less than two minutes later to go up by 2 goals.  Holy Name answered with its own goal to get within 1, and may have scored again if not for aggresive goal tending from Rowbotham.  The third period began with some serious penalty killing by Westfield to protect its lead, but eventually Holy Name tied the game midway through the period.  Defense and great team work were the reason the Bombers were able to hold off a final attack by Holy Name and keep the game knotted at 3 apiece.  Even though Westfield did not come away with a win, improvement was a huge victory.

Holy Name 3, Westfield Jr. Bombers 0
November 30th, Olympia Ice Arena
Division: Peewee 1
The Jr. Bombers and Holy Name Pee Wee A teams took to the ice Friday night with a berth to the Section 6 playdowns versus Amherst as the prize for victory.  Holy Name was able to come away with that victory scoring a decisive 3-0 victory.  Westfield started out strong utilizing its fore-checking to create a couple of early scoring chances.  However, Holy Name began breaking the attack with regularity showing some impressive passing in the offensive zone.  Matt Brady (18 saves) made back to back stellar saves at 7:03 closing the back door on a Holy Name play across the crease keeping the game scoreless.  Holy Name finally broke through scoring twice in 34 seconds with the 2nd period winding down to go ahead 2-0.  Robert Royal scored on a nifty feed from Tim Fay and Matt Bonavita, and then Nic Frichione converted on passes from Cam Smith and Cam Ziomek.  Westfield pressed late in the third period trying frantically to muster some offense, but Jonathan Tavella dashed their hopes scoring with 26 seconds remaining in the game making a steal at the opposing blue line and converting on a great breakaway move to ice the game.  Matt Pelletier was a bright spot on defense for the Jr. Bombers who, despite working hard throughout, were never able to generate offensive pressure.  Holy Name goalies Matt Dowdy and Clayton Bowsek combined for the 9 save shutout.

Westfield Jr. Bombers 8, Pioneer Valley 0
December 2nd, Smead Arena
Division: Peewee 1
The Jr. Bombers Pee Wee A’s dominated play throughout coming away with an 8-0 drubbing of Ludlow.  Westfield set up camp in the Ludlow zone throughout the contest putting pressure on the defense and generating offense from the turnovers.  Ludlow goalie Michael Young (33 saves) was outstanding despite the lack of support.  Westfield was led by Scott Bussell’s hat trick and assist, including a nifty end-to-end rush on the power play in the 3rd period.
Once again, the Westfield defense was stout holding off any attack Ludlow tried to muster.  They also contributed to the offense with Matt Pelletier and Ryan Roskey scoring goals, and Connor Koziol pitching in with 2 assists.  Alex Beachemin (2 goals, 1 assist) and Nik Chepurin rounded out the scoring with Spencer Cloutier and Joe Czernecki also chipping in with assists.  Matt Brady made 5 saves for the shutout.
