Westfield High School’s Juan Maysonet had the lone first-place finish locally in Saturday’s Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference divisional meets, typically a precursor to this Saturday’s Western Massachusetts championships to be held at Westfield State University, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Maysonet, a senior, won the 110 meter hurdles in 14.94, more than a half-second better than Central’s Edison Perez (15.48).
Maysonet also cracked the top 10 in the high jump (9th place) at 5 feet, 8 inches.
Teammate Quinn Barbeito also scored a couple of top 10 finishes – placing eighth in the long jump (19-9 ¼) and third in the triple jump (41-5).
Westfield’s 4×100 meter relay team finished runners-up in the event with a time of 44.77. Amherst won win 43.85.
As a team, the Bombers placed sixth overall (36 points). East Longmeadow (109.50), Northampton (106.50), and Ludlow (92) rounded out the top three.
The Westfield girls finished in 11th place with 34 points. Amherst overwhelmed the competition with 113.5, with Chicopee (65.33) and Holyoke (56) in second and third, respectively.
Jenna Rothermel (discus, 2nd), Bridget Hartnett (400 hurdles, 2nd), and Allyson Morin (2-mile, 2nd) had the highest finishes for the Bombers.
In Division 2, Mariah Collins (discus, 2nd) and Alexis Peterson (100 hurdles, 2nd) were runners-up for the Southwick girls (7th overall).
Tim Schmidt (discus, 2nd) had the highest boys’ finish for the Rams (15th).
