WESTFIELD – The Westfield and Minnechaug Regional high school girls’ soccer teams may need to wait until they meet again to settle the matter of who has the better squad.
The Bombers and Falcons played to a 0-0 tie.
Amelia Tooker earned the shutout in net for Westfield. She finished with 13 saves.

Jess Teodore scored for Southwick. Rams’ goalie Megan Zabik collected seven saves.

Megan Illnicky made eight saves for Voc-Tech.

Jake Parsons shot a team-low 51 to lead Voc-Tech, which lost by a narrow margin at Pine Grove.
FIELD HOCKEY
Westfield 7, West Springfield 1
Westfield exploded for four first-half goals en route to the route. Jordan Swift scored a hat trick, Olivia Clark had two goals, and Mary Boudreau and Andrea Onyski had one apiece.
Lexi Minicucci and Alex Affeldt each had two assists, and Ashlee Owen made one.
Jess Hale (0 saves) and Karly Mastello (3 saves) earned the victory in goal for the Bombers.
JV FIELD HOCKEY
Westfield 3, West Springfield 0
Grace Silva, Madison Brockey, and Paige Templeton scored for Westfield, which kept its home winning streak intact and improved to 8-2. Cara Onyski and Mackenzie Millikan earned assists.
Jourdan Frisbee and Lexi Levere enjoyed the easy shutout in net for the Bombers.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Gateway 3, Mahar 1
Curtis Dowers, Calvin Dowers, and Justin Edinger (direct kick) all scored second-half goals to lift Gateway. Ryan Fisk and Curtis Dowers each had one assist.
Mike Arel made 11 saves in net for the Gators.
Westfield Voc-Tech 5, Ware 1
Dimitriy Stepanchuk scored in the third minute, Mike Brut scored in the seventh minute, Alex Makarchuk scored the next three goals, and Voc-Tech cruised to a victory to improve to 7-3.
Peterk Makarchuk, Stepanchuk, Brut, Alex Makarchuk, and Colin Fecteau each had an assist.
The Tigers have outscored their opponents 20-1 during the last two weeks.
“We’re hoping to keep this rolling,” Voc-Tech coach Kyle Dulude said. “The kids’ confidence has grown a lot now. The players are really developing into a good unit. We’re very cohesive. It’s just fun to watch.”
St. Mary 4, Franklin Tech 0
Anthony Garde, Zack Slepchuk, and Mike Tassinari scored first-half goals for St. Mary, while Jeff Hockenberry tacked on a goal in the second half. Garde, Slepchuk, Tassinari, and Zacc Girard assisted on the aforementioned scoring plays.
Bryce Kibbe and Colin Blake split time in goal for the Saints, finishing with three saves each.

Joseph Orlowski finished first for Gateway and third overall on Thursday with a time of 18:05. Gators’ Chris Hanechak placed fifth overall in 18:55.
