WESTFIELD – William “Bill” H. High Jr. of Westfield, was called home on February 13, 2014 at the age of 81. Born in Columbia, PA on February 24, 1932 to William & Sarah (Knipe) High. He grew up in White Deere, PA and enlisted in the Air Force in the 1607th Flight line Maintenance Squadron in December 1954.
He retired from Digital Equipment Corporation as a Supervisor in the Paint Dept. and from Hamilton Standard as a Test Rig Operator. After retiring, he was employed by Elder Care Services delivering meals on wheels until July 2013. He enjoyed his daily visits with his customers. Bill enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, model trains and old time country music, watching Wheel of Fortune with his granddaughter, Sarah and sharing a birthday with his grandson Ryan, always brought a smile! He was a parishioner of Second Congregational Church in Westfield.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Carole, the love of his life for 56 years and his son, Robert (Bobby). He leaves his daughters, Tracy Donovan and Marla Bein both of Westfield. His 5 grandchildren, Ryan and Sarah Donovan, Jonathan and Gregory Stellato, and Matthew Bein; a great grandchild, James High Stellato and his long time friend, Francis Thibault. The family would like to Thank Dr. Glynn and his nurses, Dr. Beneitone, Rev. Kim Murphy, Dr. Bouchereau, Nurse Olga, Stella Smith and Mercy VNA for all their support and kindness.
The funeral for Bill will be held on Tuesday, February 18th at 11:45 a.m. from The Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, followed by military honors at 1:00 p.m. in the Mass Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
