BLANDFORD – William H. Needham, III (“Billy”) passed away June 23rd, 2023 at age 73. Born March 17th, 1950 in Westfield as the first child of William H. Needham, II and Elisabeth Needham, he was a beloved brother, loyal friend, and favorite uncle. Billy was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Air Force as a B-52 aircraft maintenance mechanic. He worked at Stevens Paper Mill in his early years, then as a car mechanic. Next he worked for the Post Office, delivering mail throughout Westfield and Springfield for 27 years, and eventually retired on Blandford mountain. He was an avid Corvette owner, Chevy fan and Harley rider, and enjoyed working on anything with an engine. He loved cars, dogs, cowboy movies and books.
Billy AKA “Darryl” is survived by his faithful dog Rocky; three siblings: John Needham (RI), Nancy L’Heritier (NY), David Needham (TX), niece Elisabeth Soares (RI), and nephew Blake Needham (TX). He also has two adult-aged children Jennifer Anne Needham (age 49), and Jeffrey William Needham (age 44), whereabouts unknown.
Friends are invited on June 29th to a wake (5-7:00 p.m.) and memorial service (7:00 p.m.) at Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St., Westfield, MA 01085. A private burial will be conducted Friday.
