WESTFIELD – William V. Bennett, 78, of Westfield, died Saturday at home. Born in Damascus, PA he was educated in Cochecton, NY and has lived in Westfield since 1966.
William was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, where he was a member of the military police serving with the Strategic Air Command. He was employed as a security guard at Pratt and Whitney for twenty-five years, retiring in 1991. William enjoyed bowling, fishing, golf and bingo.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Arlene (Basney) Bennett who died in 1964. He is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Alice (Archibald) Bennett; five sons, Andrew Bennett and his wife Michele of West Springfield, Tony Bennett and his wife Maira of Westfield, Christopher Hartman Jr., and his wife Pat of Southampton, Steven Hartman and his wife Jennifer of Westfield, and Thomas Hartman of Lake Charles, LA; a daughter, Donna Santarelli and her husband Patrick of Dunedin, FL; two sisters, Carol Shampine of Long Eddy, NY, and Rosamary Ballard of Yoda, WY. William is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will be on Thursday at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 1:00 p.m.
